SANDROYD PHOTO MAKES FRONT COVER

A wonderful sunny day photographing Sandroyd prep school in May was made all the worthwhile when Country Life Magazine chose this image for the front cover of their School Life Guide.

Providing schools with effective advertising, marketing and website photography is one of my favourite jobs – it’s an opportunity to combine my skills learned from 10 years working in marketing, with my passion for photographing children. They are such fun to work with.

The key challenge for these shoots is to provide them with unique and impactful compositions which ‘capture the spirit’ and ethos of the school, showing the pupils relaxed, happy and thriving in their environment.

Sandroyd Prep school is set in the most incredible grounds and the choice for backdrops almost overwhelming! Some of my favourite shots included the view of the temple in the background, others the school – but this above shot was photographed within the temple, with the view of the ‘Walled Garden’ behind – where the nursery aged children can play. The children play in and around the temple in every break – be it mixed cricket or just milling around chatting. The composition was simple, framed by the temple walls and the Walled Garden ‘gates’ – simple but balanced. Having just the one child looking into the camera, drawing the viewer in to their world, gives it the feel of being spontaneously shot as opposed to something contrived.

Other schools I’ve photographed in South West England, include Perrott Hill and the Prior Park in Somerset, Leweston, Hanford and Castle Court in Dorset, Pinewood in Wiltshire, Horris Hill in Berkshire and Wandsworth & Hawkesdown House in London.
